Abstract

Gel electrophoresis of extracellular soluble proteins of Bipolaris sorokinina was done to determine the variation in protein patterns. Twenty six distinct protein patterns with a total of 28 bands were detected. Six protein bands with Ef values 0.74, 0.70, 0.65, 0.45, 0.40 and 0.31 corresponding to the molecular weight of about 32, 34, 40, 71, 79 and 100 kDa respectively, may be considered as the charactrerstic bands of B. sorokiniana among which proteins of electrophoretic values 0.74 and 0.31 were found equivalent to carbonic anhydrase and bovine seam albumin. Phenotypes of higher frequencies were found to be the representatives of different locations indicating random distribution of B. sorokiniana. Genetic similarity indices based UPGMA phenogram delineated electrohoretic protein patterns into apparently eight clusters.
