Abstract

Gene action studies in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) carried out during 1993–1995 revealed that both gca and sca were significant for the characters such as individual fruit weight, fruit yield per plant, number of fruits per plant, locules per fruit and size of fruits which in turn suggest the involvement of both additive and non additive gene action. But the ratio of additive to dominance variance was less than one, which indicates a preponderance of non-additive gene action in the inheritance of these characters.
