The present study is an attempt to examine the pattern of energy use and its cost in salirice cultivation in Golaghat district of Assam. Preparatory tillage was the major farm operation both in terms of energy consumption and cost per hectare involved. In contrast, draft animal was the major energy supplying input but highest cost incurring energy input was human labour. Energy output-input ratio and benefit-cost ratio in the cultivation of the crop was 12.04 and 1.72 respectively. Economically small farms, appeared to be in a better position from the viewpoint of both energy output-input and benefit-cost ratio than other farms.
