Abstract

In assessment study an experiment was conducted over 8.1 ha. salt infested area during 2001–2002 at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri, Maharashtra where subsurface drains were installed. In order to study the impact of sub-surface drains on soil properties, soil samples were collected with respect to drain spacing and depth at an interval of four months and analyzed for various salinity parameters viz. pHs ECe, Ca2+ Mg2+ Na+ K+Cl CO32− HCO3 and SO42− and it has been observed that the 15 m drain spacing and 120cm drain depth was found better in improving the soils properties.
