Abstract

The research was carried out to study the evapotranspiration (ET) losses from wheat and black gram (urd) to select most appropriate mathematical model based on meteorological parameters for Uttarakhand Tarai conditions. This study was conducted during rabi and kharifseasons of 2006–07 and 2007–08 by using weighing lysimeter. Different empirical models based on meteorological parameters namely Blaney-Criddle, Jensen-Haise, Stephens-Stewart, Turc, Thornthwaite and Modified Penman were used to evaluate the evapotranspiration loss from wheat and black gram also the relationship of measured ET by lysimeter were evaluated by simple correlation and linear regression. It was found that the evapotranspiration from wheat and black gram under Tarai conditions is about 326.3 and 414.1 mm respectively. The average total rainfall during wheat and black gram season was 27.4 mm and 1037.2 mm respectively. Among the other mathematical models based on meteorological parameters modified penman method is remarkably suitable method for the estimation of ET in Uttarakhand Tarai condition for wheat and black gram crops.
