Clustering pattern under varying environments in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Kisan P.G. College, Simbhaoli-245 207, India

Abstract

Fifty genotypes of bread wheat made available from Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Kisan P.G. College, Simbhaoli (Ghaziabad) and Directorate of Wheat Research (DWR), Karnal (Haryana), were evaluated in two environments for ten characters to study genetic divergence by employing D2 analysis. The genotypes were grouped into six and seven clusters during first year and second year, respectively. The highest inter cluster distance was observed between cluster III and cluster II (I year) and between cluster V and cluster IV (II year). Hence genotypes belonging to these clusters can be used as parents for hybridization programme for the development of high yielding wheat genotypes. Harvest index contributed maximum to the divergence followed by spikelets per spike, biological yield and grain yield.
