Abstract

In this paper, we design an interpolation function with a built-in smoother. The function is a piecewise continuous interpolation, with separate knot and interpolation points. The combined interpolate avoids smoothing ‘a posteriori’, and hence the final functional approximation is still an interpolating function, lying within the originally designed approximation space. The method requires only classical numerical approximations.
