Perception of agricultural scientists about IoT applications

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new paradigm shift in information technology (IT) sector. The study was conducted during 2019 to investigate the perception of the agricultural scientists about IoT concept and IoT applications in Agriculture. A total of 81 scientists were randomly selected and administered the pre-tested questionnaire. The results revealed that though the majority (78%) were using the internet for over 10 years, the utilization frequency was varied. Only 12% of the respondents belonged to ‘high’ perception category and more than three-fourth (88%) of the scientists belonged to ‘low and moderate perception of IoT concept’ categories. It is observed that there is no significant difference between Plant Scientists and Social Scientists with respect to perception of IoT and IoT applications in Agriculture. Data was analyzed through Chi-square test and it is revealed that designation does not have a significant influence on the perception about IoT applications in agriculture. Further, all the scientists are possessing smartphone and Wi-Fi at their offices, however, IoT applications are mostly limited to the knowledge of sensors usage for work-related data.
