Abstract

Cognitive radio is proposed as an ultimate solution in today's spectrum-hungry environment by recycling the unused, fixed allocated spectrum. To rationalise this concept, spectrum sensing is necessary for the unlicensed users to opportunistically find the spectrum holes. In this paper, two figures of merit of the sensing process, namely, probability offalse alarm and probability of detection are formulated by deploying a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system. MIMO system is considered as to enhance the channel capacity due to spatial multiplexing so that the system performance can be optimized without employing much power.
