Abstract

Ontology has shed a new light on understanding concepts, extracting knowledge and presenting information in a meaningful way. Ontologies are developed, reused and merged to suit different objectives in various domains. As the number of ontologies developed is on the increase, an evaluation regarding the quality of the ontology will provide credibility and integrity to use it across applications and groups. A systematic approach to ontology evaluation can ensure quality of results and knowledge. This survey presents an overview of the existing methods and tools for ontology evaluation. The study identifies the criteria used by various ontology evaluation methods and tools.
