Every university has some responsibilities towards the students studying in that university. These include learning, teaching, research and scholarship and others. One is the responsibility of the safety of students and the university property. The design of student-tracking system within the university provides a simple way out to trace all the activities of the students for future use like in case if any misshaping may occur or to avoid the students from entering into any prohibited area. Moreover, this tracking information will be stored in the university's database that may be stored in cloud to provide this information to the student's parents, if required, for the safety of all the students. For this purpose, student-tracking system is designed within the university using smart technologies. The university creates a database for all the students enrolled. This database may use cloud to store the tracked information of every student. For the implementation of this concept, university needs a monitoring application that will monitor all the movements of each and every student. A combination of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Google Map API for outdoor navigation and Wi-Fi received signal strength identification for indoor tracking has been used for this purpose. In case GPS service is available and Wi-Fi connectivity is off, then the software analyses the signal strength measurement from the nearest cell towers and calculates the cell position using the trilateration algorithm..
