Investigation of the effects of regulatory framework on youth business sustainability of Micro and Small entrepreneurs in Nairobi county

This study aimed at analyzing the factors affecting the youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship in Kenya with preference to registered micro and small entrepreneurs in Nairobi County. The study was undertaken on three constructs namely; regulatory framework, Linkage, Financial Resources and Human capital. The specific objectives were; to investigate the effects of regulatory framework on youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship in Nairobi County; to assess the effects of linkage with key players in technology industry on youth business sustainability of Entrepreneurship in Nairobi County; to determine the extent to which finance availability affects youth business sustainability of Entrepreneurship in Nairobi County. And the final objective was to evaluate the extent to which availability of human capital affects youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship in Nairobi County. Further, the study investigated the effect of moderating effect of infrastructure. The study was important because it highlighted some vital issues and provided guidelines on necessary aspects on youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship. A survey research design was adopted where registered micro and small entrepreneurs in Nairobi County were targeted for the study. These entrepreneurs were selected from iHub, mLab and NaiLab. Regression analysis was the main statistical approach used to analyze the data so as to answer the research questions in this study. Descriptive statistics was used to gauge the intensity of the three constructs in this study. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to assess the effects of a moderating variable in this study. On regulatory framework, the regression analysis result revealed a significant correlation between regulatory framework and youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship in SMEs in Nairobi County. In regard to linkage and youth business sustainability of entrepreneurship in Nairobi County; the research findings led to a conclusion that linkage and youth business sustainability are positively correlated. Financial resources and youth business sustainability were found to positively correlate and the moderating effect of infrastructure was found to be significant. Similarly it is hoped that the findings of this study gives an impetus to the Entrepreneurs on how to improve into this sector and make it competitive. The study cannot be said to be conclusive relating the four factors alone, therefore there is need for more scholarly studies in other organisational factors on youth business sustainability like knowledge is the one sure source of lasting competitive advantage in an uncertain environment
