Abstract

Three main key determinants of quality in higher education are the adequate availability of quality faculty, optimum and adequate infrastructure and resources and availability of third party quality assurance system. It has been observed that while majority of students in higher education go to universities and colleges which come under the state system, they lack adequate resources in terms of manpower and infrastructure. Five issues – quantity/quality, regulation, privatization, staffing, and studying abroad – form the core of this note on the state and the prospects of higher education in India. This paper provides an overview of the Higher Education in India. Students are the primary customers in an educational setup and it is strongly supported by many researchers. Students involve in different roles: they are the product of the process, the internal customer for campus facilities, the laborers of the learning process and the internal customer of the delivery of the course material. The paper gives a overview on Higher Education statistics and challenges that are being faced by Higher Education Institutions and finally tries to bring out some suggestions to improve the Quality in Higher Education.
