Increased urbanization, liberalisation and globalization have led to faster growth in technological innovations and communication has led to their even faster transfer to all parts of the globe. The darker side of this development is the waste and its hazardous effects. Present paper attempts to clearly explain the concept of e-waste and its hazardous effects. For this purpose a detailed analysis was done of the data available regarding harmful components of e-waste. If they are not dismantled and processed in an efficient and proper manner, health problems and environment hazard caused have also been listed. Further, the study attempts to explore the legal environment in India regarding e-waste. Several rules and regulations framed by government of India have been discussed in detail.
