Abstract

Numerous structural systems are used today to meet performance orfunctional requirements in structures. Composite construction is widely used in structuralsystems to achieve long spans, lower story heights, and provide additional lateral stiffness. Composite construction uses the structural and constructional advantages of bothconcrete and steel. Concrete has low material costs, good fire resistance, and is easy to place. Steel has high ductility and high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios. When properly combined, steel and concrete can produce synergetic savings in initial andlife-cycle costs. There are two basic kinds of composite columns: steel sections encased in concrete (steel-reinforced concrete sections or SRC) and steel sections filledwith concrete (concrete filled tubes or CFT). The later can be either circular (CCFT) or square/rectangular (RCFT) in cross-section. In present study, three different cases as given below are considered

(G+2) Industrial building with Columns as I-section with alternate bay bracing.

(G+2) Industrial building with Columns as Rectangular Concrete Filled Tubular (RCFT) Sections with alternate bay bracing.

(G+2) Industrial building with Columns as I-Section Encased in Concrete with alternate bay bracing.

which are analyzed on STAAD-PRO and design is done by using Eurocode. The estimate is done. It is observed that, the cost of Case I is maximum whereas, the cost of Case III is minimum. While calculating the final cost in Case II the cost of formwork is eliminated.
