Abstract

It is proposed to simulate the DWDM system of 1.6 Tb/s ultra high capacity using MDRZ (modified duobinary return to zero) modulation format with EDFA and symmetrical dispersion compensation scheme. Comparison of 40 channel 40Gb/s DWDM system is made at different channel spacing's of 50GHz, 75GHz and 100Ghz to find optimum spacing at this high bit rate optical system. Duo binary format is used as it is suitable for high spectral efficiency at large transmission distance. DWDM is analyzed using symmetrical dispersion compensation scheme for 40 channels. The effects of variation of channel spacing on transmission distance are observed in terms of Q value and eye opening keeping BER in acceptable range. The non linear effects are limiting factors in narrow channel spaced system and in order to reduce their effects duo binary format is used and attenuation in the fiber is minimized by EDFA.
