Abstract

Surface wear is the major problem seen in various tools and parts of various industries for example: lappet hook used in textile industry, rings used in automobiles engines, bearings, etc. A comprehensive comparative study has been done using Aluminium alloy of grade AA 6063 as a substrate material and coating material i.e. Stellite 6 and Chromium carbide nickel chrome. In this study the cylindrical pins of three different samples of material Aluminium alloy AA 6063 has been prepared one sample is without coating and the other two pins coated with Stellite 6 and Chromium carbide nickel chrome (Cr3C2.NiCr). Coating is done by using Detonation gun spray coating process. After coating wear testing is done using Pin on Disk machine and using X-Ray diffraction machine. Finally, Stellite 6 was found to be best coating material compared to chromium carbide nickel chrome which can be used depending upon the loading conditions examples in Lappet hook, or Rings, turbine blades etc.
