Abstract

Moment resistance steel frame are considered to response well to seismic loads provided that they are designed and detailed for earthquake. In low seismic area, normally such as detailing's for seismic action are not imposed to the steel structures. This study, investigate seismic behavior of moment resistance steel frame designed only for wind and gravity loads. Seismic performance structure which is a seven story 3 bays frame was evaluated through pushover analysis. Two different lateraled load patterns were employed to obtain the performance point of the frame. It was observed that for PGAs lower than 0.221g the studied structure can comply with the requirements of life safety level.
