Today bioremediation is considered as the most effective and pollution free method for removing crude oil from contaminated site, as this method makes use of microorganism. This project was designed to evaluate the capability of bacterial strain to degrade crude oil. Six crude oil degrading bacterial species were isolated from oil contaminated sites in Lucknow. One isolate MJSP 04 showed maximum oil degradation potential in minimal salt media supplemented with 10% crude oil. The result shows increase in optical density and protein concentration throughout incubation period for culture MJSP 04. The isolate was found to be a Bacillus species.
