Peroxidase activity of biopolymer complex isolated from Aloe barbadensis Miller

Abstract

A procedure for the isolation of a high molecular weight acetylated polymannan has been developed based on the interactions of high molecular weight tannins isolated from Aleppo galls nuts and the inner aqueous parenchyma of Aloe barbadensis Miller. From this interaction, a basic peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.7) is co-extracted and found present in the final isolated biopolymer. Zymographic assays made on the solubilized proteins extracted from the biopolymer complex, confirmed the presence of a bioactive peroxidase having an isoelectric point (pI) of 9 and a molecular weight of 40,000 KDa, capable to retain its enzymatic activity over time.
