Abstract

In vitro cultures were initiated from aseptically germinated seedling leaf explants of high carotene tomato cultivar. These explants were cultured on various combinations and concentrations of BA, IAA and IBA to observe in vitro response. All the explants formed calli with variety of color and texture. Alcoholic extracts of callus mass showed noticeable antibacterial capacity at both concentrations (500/1000mg/mL) tested against six microbes. The morphogenic response was evident in 8 weeks on the initiation culture media. The explants produced shoots and roots with varying extent. Maximum shoot count was 22.67±2.05a on BA+IAA medium.
