The species, Disporum leschenaultianum of great medicinal value is facing danger of extinction. For its conservation, in vitro multiplication may prove one of the best techniques. Micropropagation of D. leschenaultianum has been achieved through direct organogenesis, using nodal explants were cultured on MS medium fortified with different concentrations and combinations of BAP, Kn and NAA. The highest shoot proliferation (87%) was noted on MS medium containing BAP and NAA at 4.0mg/l and 0.5mg/l respectively. The effective shoot multiplication was observed on MS medium fortified with the combination of BAP, NAA and Kn at 4.0, 0.5 and 2.5mg/l respectively. The regenerated shoots successfully rooted on MS medium supplemented with 2.0mg/l IBA. After sequential hardening, the survival rate of plantlets was determined to be 82% under green house conditions.
