Herbal medicine has been used for many years by different cultures around the world for the treatment of diabetes. The herb, Trianthema decandra is one of the traditional remedies used for diabetes since prehistoric times. In this study, we examined the anti-diabetic activity of five extracts from Trianthema decandra using an in vitro model. Inhibitory activity studied by two different protocols (with and without pre-incubation) showed that chloroform extract had better α-amylase inhibitory activities. Our study, for the first time, revealed the anti-diabetic potential of Trianthema decandra and this study could be helpful to develop medicinal preparations for diabetes and related symptoms.
