This paper is a review of public expenditure on health care in India and inter-state comparison has also been stated. Data presented in this paper were drawn from various budget documents of the state and central government such as, Budget at a Glance, Annual Financial Statements, and Finance Accounts as well as publications of the Reserve Bank of India, etc The objective of the paper is to bring out the case of health sector in India, high private expenditure and low public expenditure. Conclusion of this paper is to bring out certain expectations in the Union Budget 2011–2012 which needs to be focused.
