Abstract

This paper explores the regional disparities in socio-economic development of different districts in Tamilnadu was obtained with the help of composite index based on combination of fourteen socio-economic variables. The district-wise data for the year 2007-08 in respect of these selected variables were utilized for 29 districts of the state. The socio-economic development was estimated separately for agriculture, industry and infrastructural facilities. While the compared with inter district level the Coimbatore has been secured topper in over all rank in respect of selected variables. Infrastructural facilities were found to be a positively associated with the level of development in agricultural sector and industrial sector. We hope that the study would help policy makers and others to formulate appropriate policies to reduce the disparities.
