Abstract

The Western hospital industry experiences a shortage of skilled professionals because of image problems and competition from other sectors. Employer branding can be used as a human resource management strategy to differentiate from the competitors. An employer brand is closely connected to a company's corporate- and customer brands. The major elements of employee branding are attractiveness to outsiders, engagement and retention of talent. 23 senior hospital decision makers of Jehangir hospital, Pune were interviewed for the purpose of knowing the importance of employer branding in hospital industry. The interviewees acknowledged that employer branding problems are there in the hospital industry. The majority had heard about employer branding but only a few had started to implement it. Based on the interviews a number of suggestions were formulated to implement employer branding.

Employees of the Jehangir hospital are aware of employer branding concept but they are not much aware about the importance of the same. Jehangir hospital should organize training session for their employees to make them understand the importance of employer branding and the benefits resulting thereof. The employees of the hospital portray a good brand name to the outsiders, which in turn will help the hospital to furthet enhance their brand image.
