Technology Adoption and Its Impact on Farm Income: A Study of Farmers in Dharwad District, Karnataka

Abstract

Agricultural modernization has transformed farming, enabling higher productivity, resource efficiency, and income generation. This study examines the socio-economic factors influencing the adoption of agricultural technologies and their impact on farm income in rural Karnataka, focusing on Surasettikoppa village. The analysis utilized primary data collected through structured surveys and interviews, covering demographics, landholding patterns, and adoption rates. Findings indicate weak correlations between technology adoption and factors like age, education, landholding size, family size, and income, suggesting that socio-economic characteristics alone are not primary determinants. Younger farmers showed slightly higher adoption rates, reflecting their openness to innovation, while education and income exhibited minimal positive influences. Despite these weak associations, the results underscore the critical role of technology in enhancing farm sustainability and income. Medium to high adoption levels among 70% of farmers reveal a positive trend, though barriers persist for others due to lack of awareness and financial constraints. The study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions, including extension services, community-based training, and improved access to a affordable technologies. Stakeholder collaboration and investment in agricultural innovation are essential to bridge adoption gaps, ensuring sustainable growth and resilience in rural farming communities.
