The investigations were carried out at Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur during the year 2011–12 and 2012–13 in pigeonpea genotypes in a randomized block design to examine the responses of pigeonpea genotypes under normal and waterlogged conditions after recovery from waterlogging with twelve pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) genotypes viz; KPBR 80−2−1, ICPB 2039, ICPH 2740, ICP 8863, ICPL 87051, ICPL 20241, ICPH 2431, ICPL 20128, JP 10, C 11, RG 188 and JKM 7 to identify the susceptible and tolerant cultivars with the improvement strategies for them. Under normal conditions genotype KPBR 80-2-1 proved superiority in sugar content in leaf, starch content in root and root girth, ICPB 2039-sugar and ICPH 2740-proline in root, ICP 8863-proline in leaf, ICPL 87051-MSI in both leaf and root and root girth. However, under waterlogged conditions genotype KBPR 80−2–1 exhibited better performance in sugar content, leaf and root Membrane stability index and girth of stem and root, starch content in root, ICP 8863-proline in leaf and ICPL 87051 in root. RG 188 and JKM 7 showed specific protein bands size under waterlogged conditions which were absent in normal conditions. Most of the genotypes recorded greater expression of proteins in waterlogged conditions as compared to normal conditions.
