The positive identification of the living or diseased using the unique charecteristics of the teeth is a corner stone of forensic science. Various features of the teeth like tooth morphology, crown size, root length etc are characteristic for male and female sexes. The present study was undertaken in 60 patients, 30 males and 30 females in the age group of 11–15 who visited the department of pedodontics and preventive dentistry A.B. Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences,Mangalore. Impressions of all the patients were taken and casts were fabricated.The mesiodistal and buccolingual measurements of the mandibular canines were measured using a vernier caliper.The statistical analysis was done with the help of students ‘t’ test. It showed a significant variation amoung the mesiodistal diameters of the males and females.A statistically significant sexual dimorphism was observed (p<0.001)
