Dentists are usually included among the professionals with a higher incidence of musculoskeletal diseases in the course of their professional life. The aim of the present study is to assess the musculoskeletal pain from the aspect of Physical Ergonomics, dealing with working postures of Dental postgraduates in Bangalore City.
A total of 741 post-graduate dental students were selected for the study. Data were collected through the self administered questionnaire.
The present study was a descriptive, cross sectional questionnaire survey. 57.7% of the post-graduates worked for 8 hours a day and 48.6% of them treated 6–10 patients per day. The neck was the most frequently affected area (18.5%).
Knowledge about the scope of ergonomics and prophylaxis, as well as health and safety measures at the place of work, should be imparted professionally during under-graduate and post-graduate training.
