To search for the best pain relieving medicament in acute symptomatic pulpitis.
This study was designed to compare and evaluate the pain relieving ability of vitamins & minerals preparation (Eldervit ZC), corticosteroid preparation (Dexona), and Eugenol in acute symptomatic irreversible pulpitis, when used as sedative dressing.
The study sample composed of 60 patients during 15-months period. Pain was recorded on 1st, 3rd and 7th day using visual analog scale for pain. The data obtained were cross tabbed followed by Kruskall-Wallis Test and Mann Whitney U Test performed using statistical package SPSS version 15.
On comparison between the groups Eldervit ZC, Dexona, and Eugenol, Eugenol showed consistent pain relieving ability with p < 0.001, which was very highly statistically significant.
It can be concluded that Eugenol can be used as sedative dressing in patients with symptomatic pulpitis as a temporary measure though effective treatment will always be pulpectomy.
