Materials in maxillofacial prosthodontics-A review of trends

Rehabilitation of patients with disabilities of head and neck region, due to either congenital or acquired defects is a challenging task. These defects range from minor cosmetic discrepancies to major functional limitations. The Prosthodontic management of such patients should aim not only at restoring the functional and esthetic handicaps, but also ensure psychological well being. For facial rehabilitation, accurate assessment of materials used in maxillofacial prostheses plays a very crucial role. Till date we have come across varying materials with excellent properties and some deficiencies. The aim of this article is to provide some insight on their evolution and current trends in using these materials.
