Deep seated buccal soft tissue lipoma: A case report

Lipomas are uncommon in the oral cavity, comprising less than 5% of all benign tumors in this location, although they are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the body. It is not clear if a lipoma of soft-tissue represents a benign tumor, a local hyperplastic growth of fat cells, or a combination of both. The clinical course of oral lipoma is generally asymptomatic and can grow insidiously large to cause esthetic and functional disturbances. Moreover, deeply occurring lipomas are less common and often go unnoticed unless they attain an appreciable size and the diagnosis is often delayed than their superficial counterparts. An unusual case of deeply occurring lipoma affecting the right cheek in a 50 years old male patient with clinical presentation, the difficulties that can be encountered in diagnosing lesions presenting similar features, investigations and its management is described in the present report.
