Abstract

To evaluate the effect of EDTA conditioning and Carbodiimide pre-treatment on the shear bond strength of seventh generation adhesive to dentin.

Flat coronal dentin surfaces were prepared on 40 extracted human molars. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups according to different surface pre-treatments. a) G Bond applied following manufacturer's instructions. b) Dentin conditioning with 24% EDTA gel prior to application of G Bond c) Carbodiimide pre-treatment followed by application of G Bond. d) Application of Carbodiimide on EDTA conditioned dentin surface followed by application of G Bond. Composite restorations were placed in all the samples. All the samples were subjected to shear bond strength evaluation. Statistical analysis - Data collected was subjected to statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA and t-test at a significance level of p<.05.

EDTA and Carbodiimide application alone had no significant effect on the immediate shear bond strength of G Bond. However, sequential application of carbodiimide on EDTA conditioned dentin surface significantly improved the shear bond strength of G bond.
