Fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws such as juvenile ossifying fibroma, pose diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties due to their clinical, radiological and histological variability. Management of such lesions poses a challenge to the surgeon owing to the aggressiveness of the tumor & age of presentation.
In this paper we present a case of juvenile ossifying fibroma of the mandible occurring in an 8-year old girl. Excision of the tumor with segmental mandibular resection and reconstruction with costochondral graft was performed. After a 5-year follow-up, the patient is free of tumor and demonstrates excellent graft uptake, facial symmetry and function of the mandible.
