Primary root canal therapy is a highly predictable procedure. However, inability to sufficiently disinfect the root canal system may lead to persistent apical pathosis. Fusobacterium is the second most frequently recovered anaerobic microbial group in human and animal microflora. F. nucleatum is the organism most frequently identified in root canals with necrotic pulp and periapical pathology. The knowledge of endodontic microbiota like F. nucleatum is essential for effective microbial control and the success of endodontic treatment. This comprehensive review aims at focusing on virulence histopathogenesis and coaggregation potential of F.nucleatum.
