Healing of periradicular tissues by non-surgical treatment can be enhanced by use of certain materials, for example calcium hydroxide when comes in contact with periapical tissues stimulates the process of healing. With the further introduction of calcium silicate materials, the regeneration of cementum and periodontal ligament could also be achieved. These materials are osteoinductive and cementogenic agents which stimulate immune cells to release lymphokines required for the repair and regeneration of cementum and stimulate bone coupling factors necessary for bioremineralization and healing of osseous periapical defects.
