Abstract

This paper presents a brief overview & result of speech synthesis for Marathi language and discuss the issues relevant to the development of a Marathi speech synthesizer using different choice of units: words, phonemes and syllables as a database. Different synthesizer technologies are discussed. Quality of the synthesizer with different unit size indicates that the syllable synthesizer performs better than the word, phoneme synthesizers. The most important qualities of a speech synthesis system are naturalness and intelligibility. Proper cutting of syllable is required to achieve naturalness. In this paper an algorithm has developed to achieve greatest naturalness in the speech output.
