Abstract

This paper presents an improved scheme for Biparietal Diameter Estimation in second trimester fetal images. The preprocessing is carried out using improved iterative Despeckling filter and segmentation of image features is done using Mean-shift clustering approach. This dynamic approach has been tested on a set of second trimester images with gestation age varying from 12 weeks to 24 weeks. It has been observed that using this dynamic algorithm, it is possible to estimate the gestational age with a deviation of as low as ± 5 to ± 7 days.
