Despite many claims of women empowerment, the fact is that women still remain the most vulnerable victims of crime. Date Rape is a subset of acquaintance rape where nonconsensual sex occurs between two people who are in a romantic relationship. Most commonly used drugs to facilitate sexual assault are alcohol, GHB and Rohypnol. Because of the effects of these drugs, victims may be physically helpless, unable to refuse sex and to remember what happened. Drugs are often colorless, odorless, and tasteless and are easily added to drinks without the victim's knowledge. Trends of rape cases have increased by 873.3% (from 2,487 in 1971 to 24,206 in 2011). Lifetime prevalence of acquaintance rape ranges from 13%-27% among college-age women and 20% to a high of 68% among adolescents.
