Fortunately, though, a dramatic change is occurring in the teaching and learning settings of our Medical colleges. Focus on the characteristics of the learner is creating a major transformation in the evolutionary cycle of new and emerging trends in teaching practices and theories. The emphasis has shifted from teacher-directed activities to a focus on learner-centered behaviors. In addition, there are other important forces that are driving these new trends in teaching and learning within today's educational profession. It is accepted that the feedback from students serves as an effective tool in developing teaching methodology and evaluation methods in undergraduate teaching.
To assess the student's attitude and feedback on teaching methods and evaluation of theory class.
The College based cross sectional study was conducted among final MBBS students of Alluri Sita Ramaraju academy of Medical sciences, Eluru during the period from November 2013 to December 2013. Pre designed and Pretested study questionnaire was filled and were recorded in both sexes. Results were analyzed and necessary statistical tests like proportions and chi square tests were applied.
Out of total 87 students, 27(31%) were males and 60(69%) were females. About 85% of the students were having opinion that 45 minutes is required for each theory class. 43.7% of the medical students preferred smart method mode of teaching followed by power point presentation (34.5%) compared to OHP method and chalk and talk method. About 73.6% of the students require animation in power point presentation for better understanding of theory class. 34% of the medical students suggested interactive teaching session in the theory class for better understanding, and making the theory class more interesting and acceptable, followed by smart method (19.8%), revision of previous class (17%).
Based on the above study there is a need for using appropriate technology for easy and better understanding of theory class for present generation students.
