To evaluate prevalence of metabolic syndrome (Mets) in rural population of Western UP (India)- A prospective Study was carried out w.e.f. Dec 2008 to June 2013. Total 5400 adults of 25 to 65 years age group from 3000 families were enrolled. Anthropometric measurement, blood pressure, plasma lipids, fasting glucose and a questionnaire based interview were obtained from each participant. Three different working definitions for Mets including U.S. National Cholesterol Education Program's Adult Treatment Panel III, a modified adult treatment panel III that adopts the World Health Organization's criterion for central obesity in Asian Population and one recently proposed by the International Diabetes Federation were used in the study.
