Internet is a global linkage of computers that allows information transfer. Internet can provide access to unlimited resources of information. In today's world use of internet has become indispensible and. dependency on Internet has increased. There is a very rapid change in the way of communication technology being used and our students should also be ready to embrace it. The objective of this study was to find out various aspects of Internet use such as, frequency, place, and purpose of use with level of users.
This is a cross sectional study conducted among the 182 students of the engineering college in District Meerut UP, between January 2013-June 2013. A pre-tested semi structured questionnaire was used.
Data was entered in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and analyzed with proportional percentage.
The most frequently used places for accessing the Internet are the college (35.71%) and at home (25.57%). A majority of the respondents i.e. 42.95% use the Internet mainly for entertainment purposes and comparatively less number of respondents i.e. 34.6% use the Internet for educational purposes. Conclusion: It was found that the Internet has become a vital instrument for entertainment, research and learning process in academic system during the study period among of students.
