To identify the risk factors for Hyperbilirubinemia in newborn at a tertiary care center in NCR, Delhi.
Cross-sectional prospective study.
A cross-sectional prospective study of neonates to identify the risk factors for hyperbilirubinemia was done between Jan 2014-July 2014.
Neonatal factors like low gestational age, low birth weight, lower apgar score, history of jaundice in sibling and maternal factors like mothers’ blood group, use of oxytocin and PROM are significantly associated with neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
In resource limited healthcare settings, the cord-blood and clinical screening of the neonates with risk factors would prevent prolonged hospitalization and cost as well as readmission because of neonatal jaundice.
