Since the development of anti retroviral treatment (ART) for HIV patients and there is a tremendous hope to give the good quality of life to HIV individuals and also this ART treatment will increase the life expectancy of HIV infected individuals. We made an attempt to know the efficacy of the drugs in the form of symptoms relief and also CD4 count improvement.
To know the improvement of CD4 count after initiation of the Anti retroviral treatment
To study the demographic variables associated with CD4 count.
The present Hospital based descriptive study was conducted at district hospital area of Eluru during the period from January 2013 to December 2013 by retrospectively. A total of 200 individuals were selected from the district hospital randomly from Eluru. Results were analysed and necessary statistical tests like proportions tests were applied.
Out of 200 individuals, 98 were males and 102 were females. About 42.5% HIV positive people were in the age group of 26–35 years and only 1% HIV positive people in the age group of more than 60 years. There was statistically significant improvement was noticed among all HIV positive age group individuals (P<0.01). About 10.5% HIV positive individuals were developed some minor complications following initiation of ART and none of them stopped treatment due to such complications.
Based on the above study results, early detection, prompt CD4 testing facility even at area hospital and community health centres, regular follow-up and contact tracing is required for further reduction of HIV associated opportunistic infections. Good adherence to ART therapy will bring escalating CD4 count improvement.
