A Correlation between Glycosylated Haemoglobin & Lipid Profile in Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus with & without Complications

Abstract

Diabetes is becoming fast growing disorder worldwide, accompanying dyslipidemia thereby causing cardiovascular complication. The study aimed to evaluate the relationship among glycated hemoglobin and lipid profile in diabetic subjects with and without complications. About 50 patients (30 cases of diabetes without complications. 20 cases of diabetes with complications.) and 50 healthy individuals were included in the study. Venous blood samples collected and serum analyzed for HbA1c, Fasting blood glucose, Total Cholesterol, Triacylglycerols, HDL-C and LDL-C & were calculated. The levels of HbA1c and FBG did not differ significantly between male and female subjects. Significant correlation between HbA1c and TC, LDL-C also observed. Diabetic patients were divided into two groups as per the cutoff value of 6.0% of glycosylated heamoglobin. The diabetic patients with HbA1c value > 6.0% showed increased mean values of TC, TG & LDL & it was statistically significant in comparison to patients with HbA1c value ≤ 6.0%. The present study shows significant correlation between HbA1c and various lipid parameters, higher mean values of lipid parameters and significant risk ratio between two groups (≤ 6.0%. and > 6.0%) of glycated hemoglobin. The level of all the biochemical parameters were significantly (p<0.05) higher among the cases of DM with complications compared with without complications.
