Human rabies is an entirely preventable disease. Lack of public awareness, complacency and neglect have contributed to persistence of rabies infection with an increasing trend and avoidable expenditure on human vaccination (post exposure prophylaxis). An overview of the up to date clinical features and management has been given. A prescription for control of stray dogs as a component of the approach to dealing with rabies has also been provided.
