Prospective case control study.
The study was conducted in the deptt of Medicine, Rama Medical College for a period of 22 months, enrolled 102 patients with T2DM. The Pr. End point was reduction in A1C & sec. end point was FPG/2h PPG reduction from base line.
Comparable A1C reduction was observed with a mean ± std deviation change from base line to the 30 th wk endpoint of-0.92±1.13% in the Vildagliptin groups & in Glimeperide group it was-0.98±1.30. A similar reduction was observed with 2h PPG, Vildagliptin group 3.50±4 mmol/l vs Glimeperide 2.0±2.2mmol/l. Patients who(Vildagliptin group) achieved A1C <7% at 30th wk was 50% & 55% in the Glimeperide group. Incidence of hypoglycemia was 9.5 fold lower in the Vildagliptin group. Average body wt gain was higher in the Glimeperide group.
Comparitively Vildagliptin-met provided better glucose control efficacy & lower risk of hypoglycemia & wt gain.
