Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal and metabolic disorder, which affects around 3 to 10 per cent women of child bearing age. Its diagnosis is not straight forward but depends upon clinical, ultra-sonological and pathological findings.
The study involved 204 patients of Irregular menstrual cycle, Hirsutism and or Weight gain. Ultrasound examination was done and 28 patients fulfilling the sonological criteria of PCOS were selected; these were followed up by Glucose Tolerance Test and Hormonal Assessment. Out of total 28 cases of PCOS, 18 cases had high Insulin levels and Impaired Glucose Tolerance.
Around 64% cases of PCOS had Insulin Resistance
