Present study was carried out to determine Blood Pressure (BP) variation during different stages of Cesarean section in different socioeconomic groups. To help in establishing better perinatal care towards achieving the goal of healthy mother and baby.
100 cases of Cesarean section done under spinal anaesthesia in Nalanda Medical College Hospital were evaluated. Blood Pressure was recorded on admission,after premedication, after skin incision, after delivery of head of baby, after oxytocin injection, after delivery of baby, after delivery of placenta, after repair of uterus and after skin repair.
Upper middle class - Baseline mean Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were 117± 7.13 and 77.88 ± 5.66 mmHg. There was significant rise in SBP and DBP after premedication (129.29±5.15 & 86.56± 4.12 mmHg respectively, p <0.05). SBP and DBP falls after oxytocin injection (112.76±6.50 & 72.42±4.05), after delivery of baby (112.76±6.50 &71.08±3.46) and after delivery of placenta (110.96±5.47 & 71.56±3.19 mmHg). Lower class -Baseline mean Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were 117±8.97 and 77.16 ± 6.25 mmHg. There was significant rise in SBP and DBP after premedication (131.28 ± 7.11& 87.22± 5.71 mmHg respectively, p <0.05). SBP and DBP falls after oxytocin injection (109.96±9.33 & 69.18±5.85), after delivery of baby (111.08±9.15 &70.54±5.49) and after delivery of placenta (113.40±8.62 & 72.44±4.65 mmHg) respectively.
There is wide variation in Blood Pressure during Cesarean section and BP falls significantly after oxytocin injection. Close monitoring of BP during caesarean section may result in better perinatal outcome.
